Gertrude Tompkins Silver was a Woman’s Air Force Service Pilot (WASP) who was last seen taking off from Mines Field (now LAX) in October, 1944, in a P-51 Mustang. She was supposed to have delivered this brand new fighter airplane to an East Coast port. She never showed up. Of the 38 WASPs killed in World War II she is the only one still missing. I have incorporated the fiction aspects of her story into my book The Editor’s Woman. I have also written a screenplay based on her life, titled “Out of the Blue.” You can find it on Amazon Studios. Feedback is appreciated.
